Sometimes called a Siberian cypress or Russian arborvitae, M. decussata is a finely textured but dense groundcover. Foliage is arranged in flat, fan-like sprays reminiscent of arborvitae. It’s extremely cold hardy – after all, it’s native to Siberia. This species is a wonderful alternative to groundcover junipers. And it’s purported to be deer resistant.
Why grow Microbiota decussata?
• Foliage is bright green in summer, changing to bronze-purple in fall and winter.
• Adaptable to poor dry soils in sun and windy exposed areas.
• Also works in part-shade landscapes.
• No serious insect or disease problems.
