Exciting new plants you'll want to grow

Magnolia ‘Black Tulip’
Bred by Mark Jury of New Zealand and available from Anthony Tesselaar Plants, magnolia ‘Black Tulip’ has dark black-purple flowers that are the darkest of any magnolia. The flowers are reminiscent of goblet-shaped purple-black tulips, though much larger, averaging around 6 inches in diameter. A deciduous upright tree, a mature ‘Black Tulip’ can grow to 25 feet tall and 10-12 feet wide. The tree flowers in early spring before the leaves emerge. A mature tree can produce more than 150 blossoms, which are followed by dark-green foliage.

Marge Miller camellia
Though presented in the form of a patio tree or staked to 3 feet tall, this Australian introduction is the first prostrate camellia in the world. It makes a superb groundcover, spilling over walls or from a hanging basket. When trained on a stake or wall, it will cascade down for a lovely weeping shape. Full, soft-pink flowers appear in fall along the stems against the deep-green, glossy foliage. Prefers filtered sun. USDA Hardiness Zones 7-10.

Jade Princess ornamental millet
Intense lime-green leaves, controlled and mounded shape and pollenless heads characterize this variety from Ball. Jade Princess is good for landscapers looking for plants in the chartreuse color group. It offers an economical option for growers — seed can be direct-sown into finished containers; plants are well-suited to pot sizes up to gallons and offer a fast finish time. Jade Princess grows 24-30 inches tall and 18-24 inches wide. It requires warmer temperatures than other millets to perform well.
