GIE Media, Inc., the business-to-business media company that publishes Greenhouse Management, Produce Grower, Nursery Management and Garden Center magazines, is launching The Hort Report, a news and commentary podcast for the horticulture industry.
Through The Hort Report, the GIE Media Horticulture Group will continue to offer the same timely, trustworthy and relevant content, while establishing a fresh, unified voice in a new format that reflects the missions of all four magazines.
The Hort Report strives to serve the growing number of readers who choose to receive their news and information through podcasts. In 2017, the percentage of Americans aged 12 or older who are familiar with the term “podcasting” increased to 60 percent, an increase from previous years, according to statistics from Edison Research. In a five-part article series on podcasting, Ken Doctor of Harvard University’s Niemen Journalism Lab described 2016 as “the year the podcast business came of age.”
“The Hort Report is a joint effort between the Garden Center, Nursery Management, Greenhouse Management and Produce Grower editorial staffs, and addresses a broad spectrum of topics of importance to horticulture professionals,” says Jim Gilbride, ornamental group publisher at GIE Media. “We continue to listen to readers and constantly innovate our products to best serve them. We want to deliver media the way our readers want to consume it, which in today’s rapidly changing world is multiple channels.”
“Whether they work at a greenhouse, vertical farm, independent garden center or nursery, listeners will benefit from the timely, relevant news and information The Hort Report provides,” says Karen Varga, editor of Greenhouse Management and Produce Grower magazines, and editor-in-chief of Garden Center magazine. “They can learn about the latest technological advancements in the industry as well as established methods for growing and marketing the plants and produce they’re growing and selling. It’s a great way to further connect the industry.”
The Hort Report is available on the Apple iTunes store and on Greenhouse Management, Produce Grower, Garden Center and Nursery Management’s individual websites.
