Carex divulsa

Carex divulsa is a sedge with an edge. It’s not flashy. It’s not bold. But from a performance standpoint, it’s bound to impress.

Bright green arching clumps grow to 1½ feet tall and 2 feet wide, which stay evergreen in all but the coldest zones. Use C. divulsa, also called grassland sedge, in a meadow or as a lawn alternative. Unlike some sedges, C. divulsa is at home in hot and humid zones.

It’s a cool-season grower and will experience a flush of growth as temperatures drop in early fall.

In the nursery trade, C. divulsa was mistaken for the native C. tumulicola (Berkeley sedge), but is now believed to have been introduced from Eurasia and naturalized in parts of Canada and the Northeastern U.S.

Why grow Carex divulsa?
