Editor's Note: This article originally appeared in the July 2025 print edition of Nursery Management under the headline “2025 Native Plant Market Report.”
For Nursery Management's first Native Plants Market Report, the magazine surveyed 281 readers about their native plant production.
Most respondents were from the U.S. (95%), and states with most respondents were California, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.
Nearly half of those surveyed are wholesale growers/propagators (40%), with 30% identifying as a retail garden center/nursery. Another 16% fell into the categories of landscape design/build or maintenance firm, municipality or public garden, botanical garden/arboretum and extension or university-affiliated program.
Key takeaways: Environmental and ecological benefits of native plants drive a lot of sales decisions; customer demand continues to climb; and perennials make up the most native inventory offerings.
This report was sponsored by Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Shrubs. Browse their collection of nearly 100 native shrub cultivars.
Note: Some charts don’t total 100% due to rounding, options for multiple answers or because not all answers are included with some questions. Thank you to all who participated.
