Matthew and Timothy Nichols, owners of Buchholz and Buchholz Nursery, a wholesale grower of Japanese maples, dwarf and unusual conifers and other choice ornamental trees and shrubs are pleased to announce that Joel Johnson has joined their team as the chief operating officer/nursery manager and Jordan Ellis as the horticultural manager at their 25 acre West Coast Nursery in Gaston, Oregon.
With over 20 years of experience in the wholesale plant nursery industry, Johnson brings with him a passion and enthusiasm for plants, extensive knowledge in maple and conifer specimens, multi-million dollars of nursery sales experience, marketing, leadership, and industry specific strategy for company growth and development. He values communication, collaboration, customer relations and team building.
“I am excited to continue to build on the legacy of this company, the success of Mr.Maple.com and to apply the principles of nursery management, business marketing, and customer relations to elevate this brand to the next level," Johnson says.
Ellis attended Oregon State University where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Horticulture concentrated in sustainable production. He has worked in various nurseries ranging from retail to wholesale in the gulf, east and west coast regions of the country. Plants are his passion and enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors in his free time.
Ellis’ interest in Japanese Maples began when he was introduced to Acer Palmatum ‘Mikawa Yatsubusa’ in college. He saw a magazine about Buchholz at one of his previous jobs, and now that he is working there, Ellis says that he “couldn’t think of anything better, it’s a dream opportunity.”
