The search for a chief executive officer to lead J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. (JFS) into the future is underway. The Oregon-based wholesale grower of shade, flowering and specialty ornamental trees announced the CEO search after informing customers of the impending retirement of General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Art Anderson, who has managed day-to-day operations of the nursery since 2012.
The ideal leader will possess the skills to guide JFS into the future while ensuring continued growth and opportunities for its customers in the United States and abroad, employees and family ownership. The ideal candidate will be equipped to lead the development, recommendation and execution of company strategy and take responsibility for the performance and culture of the 73-year-old nursery.
Founded by Evelyn and J. Frank Schmidt Jr. in 1946, the nursery has introduced more than 100 unique tree cultivars to the nursery trade. The CEO search, led by a committee comprised of Schmidt family and non-family board members, is part of the company’s planned transition into third-generation leadership and management of the 2,500-acre+ tree-growing operation that employs more than 400 dedicated team members.
